Parades that the Tucson Rodeo Parade Committee attends....

Photos and Text by Faith Boice

The Tucson Rodeo Parade Committee is not only responsible for putting on one of the longest non-motorized parades, but the Committee also contributes to the community in other events in and around Tucson. The Tucson Rodeo Parade Committee attends as an entry in other parades to promote the Tucson Rodeo Parade. Many times going to these events include long hours, many miles and the livestock to use for the entry. It is not uncommon to see a convoy of horse trailers and wagons on their way to attend a parade somewhere across Arizona. The parades that the Tucson Rodeo Parade Committee attends range from Scottsdale all the way down to Tombstone with several in between such as Cave Creek, Marana and Willcox.
The energetic groups of volunteers that attend these parades generously give their time, resources and energy to attend these parades. This usually involves getting up at the wee hours of the morning, loading horses and meeting for breakfast before heading to the parade destination. Upon arrival to the staging area of each parade, it is a group effect to unload the wagon, harness the team, saddle the horses and get into uniform for the parade. At the same time, many laughs are shared as pop-up tents, ice chests and tables are set up for lunch that is provided for the volunteers after the parade. After the parade, everyone eats lunch, has some beverages and helps dismantle the temporary staging area.

Going to these events is a fantastic way for the general public to put a face to the Tucson Rodeo Parade as a reoccurring event in Tucson. Members and volunteers of the Parade Committee talk with people about attending or the possibility of participating in the Tucson Rodeo parade and also encourage them to come to Tucson to view our historic Tucson Rodeo Parade Museum. Out reach programs such as this is an important way to get Southern Arizona communities involved

The ANTIQUES ROADSHOW at
The TUCSON RODEO PARADE MUSEUM

In June 2006  the Antiques Roadshow Filmed the The Rodeo Parade Museum and Equipment For a New Episode to be aired next year.

ANTIQUES ROADSHOW personnel were;  Sarah Elliott, Associate Producer;  Ines Hofmann Kanna, Segment Producer; Mark L. Walberg, Antiques Roadshow Host; Bob Stewart, TRPC; makeup artist Louise Miller; Bob Birkett, Director Field Videography & Charlie Collias, Field Audio.

Working with the ANTIQUES ROADSHOW crew makes it easy to understand why the show, in its 11th season, is such a success. Easy to get along with true professionals—all!

Early in 2006, when they first contacted us, it was easy to understand the values derived from our membership in The Metropolitan Tucson Visitors & Convention Bureau (MTVCB) and the great work Jake Jacobson did in getting our Web Site up  looking good and #1 ranking. MTVCB recommended us and the Web Site got them to us.

As we understand it there will be 3—1 hour shows featuring Tucson.

We will be in one of them, as a side feature. Our segment is scheduled to air February 12, 2007. We filmed in June, from 10—4 P.M. About 104° F. during the production!

The folks at Lazy K Bar Ranch provided us with a great horse, and three of their personnel. Many thanks to Roy, Mikki and the gang from Lazy K Bar!

Russ Krietemeyer, Bob Johnson, Dominick Porretto, Bob Taylor, Bernice Anderson, Caryl Duryee and Linda Stewart were on hand to help things run smoothly—and they did. Thanks to all, as well.

It’s far too early to gauge the effects the show will have on the Parade or Museum.
One thing we did derive, even if no one seeing the show ever sees the Parade or visits the Museum —– is the appraisals !
