A
self-made man, Humberto Lopez has washed dishes, dug ditches, worked
fields, bagged groceries, and become one of the most recognized members of
Tucson’s busi-ness and nonprofit communities. Lopez walks a philosophy of
philanthropy and Tucson and Pima County residents are better for it. He
believes,
“Surplus wealth is a sacred trust and those who are fortunate to possess
it are bound to administer it for the good of the community.” He is a role
model for young people and adults alike. When Lopez was 12, his father
died unexpectedly and both his mother and Lopez (the oldest of six
children) went to work to support the family. Years of poverty followed,
but he soon learned that the best way to escape the life of poverty was
through education. His success came through hard work, perseverance, and
life lessons from
family. He also acknowledges the value of the financial aid that helped
him get a higher education, and for that he is forever grateful. Today,
Humberto Lopez is president and co-founder of HSL Properties Inc, which
pri-marily deals in the purchase, investment, and development of real
estate, and is notably active in community events, fund-raisers, and
service organizations. He and his wife, Czarina, invest more than
financial resources alone. They give of themselves, their free time, and
their wisdom to assist others. They are committed to our commu-nity in
ways beyond measure.Congratulations to Humberto Lopez, the
2008 Grand Marshal for the Tucson Rodeo Parade!
